Route 2: NTI TRAINING: Understanding ADA

The goal of this course is to teach transit professionals the legal background of ADA and paratransit requirements. The course is facilitated by industry professionals with extensive experience in paratransit services and the ADA.

Topics include:

- ADA legal requirements that apply to public and private transportation related entities
- 14 service provisions documented in 49 CFR Part 37, Subpart G
- Requirements to determine if a public or private entity must provide complementary paratransit service
- Criteria for complementary paratransit service
- Requirements for existing and new transportation facilities
- Compliance and enforcement responsibilities of FTA, DOT, and DOJ
- Responsibilities and compliance procedures for public and private entities

Route 3: ROADEO OPERATORS WORKSHOP: Managing Stress

Working in the transit industry is one of the most stressful jobs in today’s society. Traffic - passengers - more traffic – more passengers – supervisors – faulty equipment – all add stress to an already tense day. Few people really understand what stress is, or recognize what it does within our bodies. Even fewer people know how to control stress, live with it, and make it work for them. In this workshop, Dale Knutson will take both a humorous and serious, as well as interactive look at what stress is, what it does, and how you, as bus operators, supervisors, and managers, can control not only the stress – but how you react to the stress you are feeling. Mr. Knutson will talk about the physical signs of stress, as well as the mental signs of stress; both of which affect job performance as well as personal feelings. He will also discuss our system of values, and how that contributes to daily stress. Finally, you will be given specific things you can do to alleviate stress as you do your job; as well as how you can deal with the stressors at home. This workshop promises to be enjoyable, fast-paced, and interactive.
