Currently it houses a fleet of 210 paratransit vehicles on an 11-acre site, with a 78,200 square-foot facility.

On the first floor, the maintenance facility includes 15 full service maintenance bays with a separate tire shop, a maintenance training room, parts room, tool box storage area, maintenance offices, and other maintenance amenities that you cannot live without (once you see the facility). In addition, there are 2 locker rooms, a lunch room, and a fully equipped exercise room.

Federal Legislative Overview with U.S. Congress Staff

3:30 - 5 p.m.
B 402, 4th Level, GWCC

Important transit legislative issues that may be debated in Congress during the year ahead

company logoCongress is now in the process of developing FY 2018 funding bills for federal transit programs authorized by the FAST Act, and the administration budget proposed to phase out the Capital Investment Program that provides the federal funding share for new starts, small starts, and core capacity projects. Congress and the Trump Administration have talked about advancing a major infrastructure investment bill, as well as a comprehensive tax reform bill that, at least in theory, could address the long-term solvency of the Highway Trust Fund and the Mass Transit Account.  Separately, in response to discussions in the administration and Congress, APTA has developed recommendations on transit financing in an infrastructure bill and regulatory streamlining ideas for an administration that wants to reduce red tape and speed project delivery. These are just some of the issues that a panel of professional staff members from congressional committees that have jurisdiction over federal public transportation programs will discuss.

3:30 - 5 p.m.
B 403, 4th Level, GWCC

Attend this forward-looking host forum to learn more about MARTA’s pivotal role in transforming transportation in Atlanta, a city with deep ties to the industry dating to the 19th century.

The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA), the host system for the Annual Meeting & EXPO, is conducting a host forum, “Georgia on My Mind,” that builds on Atlanta’s deep ties to the transportation industry when it served as a railroad hub in the 19th century. The creation of MARTA in the 1960s completed the vision of providing multimodal accessibility. This session will examine the past, present, and future of transportation in Georgia, detail the events that have encouraged the state to reexamine the value of public transportation from urban and rural perspectives and explore MARTA’s role in this effort.

COMTO/APTA FORUM

3:30 - 5:30 p.m.
B 406, 4th Level, GWCC

The award-winning documentary film "Free to Ride" is a lasting memory that you will want to take away from this conference!

You are invited to APTA’s premier screening of the documentary “Free to Ride.” The film profiles the power of civil rights and a community’s determination to provide access to jobs and other quality of life opportunities. This poignant story captures the relentless spirit of community members across Dayton, Ohio, who overcame a suburban contingency opposed to the expansion of public transit along a commercial corridor, and the system of checks and balances that allowed justice and reason to prevail. Following the screening, an equally committed panel will discuss the significance of this film in reminding us of our purpose as stewards of public transportation.

FTA Buy America Transit Supply Chain Connectivity Forum

8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
C 205/206, 2nd Level, GWCC

A special event to connect transit OEMs and manufacturers interested in becoming suppliers to support a broader transportation supply base in the U.S.

This forum represents an opportunity for manufacturers with capabilities that are potentially relevant for transit industries to grow and diversify into this emerging market.

The forum is designed to bring large transit OEMs and Tier 1 Suppliers together with smaller, capable and interested U.S. manufacturers in an effort to facilitate the use of a higher percentage of domestic suppliers in transit products and systems. The forum will provide a venue for smaller manufacturers to learn what products are needed and find out more about investments they need to consider when entering the transit industry.

Making the case for transit in regional decision making

company logoUnder MAP-21, and reinforced in the FAST Act, transit plays an increasing role in the development of a robust regional multimodal transportation plan. With the introduction of performance based planning and programming (PBPP) at the regional level, transit agencies now have an opportunity to shape plans and program processes to achieve desired outcomes for a truly sustainable multimodal transportation systems. Collaboration with MPOs and state DOTs helps ensure that transportation decisions are made both in the long and short term. Hear how collaboration is helping to meet transit asset management and State of Good Repair targets, and how sharing of data is helping to achieve mutual goals.

FTA State Safety Oversight Agency (SSOA) Certification and Best Practices

9:30 - 11 a.m.
B 309, 3rd Level, GWCC

Become SSO certified from FTA and learn from best practices at peer agencies

company logoThis session will discuss the Federal Transit Administration’s State Safety Oversight (SSO) Program final rule that became effective on April 15, 2016, which gave states three years to have their SSO Agencies become fully certified. Further, if a state does not become certified by the deadline, it risks losing all its Chapter 53 funding for transit. A State Safety Oversight Agency representative will speak about its recent certification by the FTA and how it got to that point. In addition, transit agency representatives will talk about their SSOs becoming certified and being partners in the process. Finally, FTA staff will discuss the ongoing SSO certification process and what other states need to do in order to become fully certified.

Procurement – What Happened to the Good Old Ways? They Are No Longer Good!

9:30 - 11 a.m.
B 401, 4th Level, GWCC

New fare systems is a case in point

Today’s procurement processes must shift much closer to the speed of technology development. A new version is on the way to the store before you can get your new personal device home. The same thing is happening within our agencies. Technology is practically obsolete before we have even processed the procurement. Come here some new ideas on getting what is needed – WHEN – it is needed.

Transit System Overhauls

Best practices and lessons learned to meet the demands of commuters today

company logo

In 2014, the Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) overhauled its total system for the first time in 34 years to address 21st century commuting patterns. Following the JTA’s success, a number of other agencies also redesigned outdated route networks. Agencies throughout the country are taking note, as population shifts and changing work patterns demand a new way of doing business. As transit agencies consider ways to grow ridership and increase satisfaction among existing customers, providing an efficient system that is fast, reliable, and safe is paramount. Learn best practices from transportation executives who have led the way in planning, outreach, and implementation of total system redesigns.

The State Road and Tollway Authority (SRTA) recently opened a new Operations & Maintenance Facility that serves as the south hub and base of operations for 13 of 27 Xpress commuter coach transit routes. Opened in March 2017, the new, 38,000-square-foot facility was designed and constructed to provide much-needed operational space for the growing bus fleet and sustainable and energy-efficient upgrades throughout the entire facility. The Maintenance Building features 12 bays (six drive through and six pull in), which include such amenities as in-ground lifts and an engine dynamometer and brake tester. State-of-the-art LED lighting and technology throughout the facility and a touchless bus wash which recycles 70% of the water used demonstrate a strong commitment to environmental sustainability. An adjacent 3-bay fueling island features an efficient fluid distribution system and 20,000-gallon underground tank for diesel fuel.

The facility also features a separate Administrative Building, which houses a high-tech dispatch command center with a video wall, modern office design and upgraded lounge and training areas for staff and drivers. Rounding out the footprint is secured parking for 98 commuter transit buses and 125 employee vehicles. Overall, the new Operations & Maintenance Facility expands SRTA’s capabilities as a transit operator and represents a commitment to innovation, sustainability, and preparing Xpress for future growth.
